After a seven-year hiatus, the parkour edition of the zombie apocalypse is back and bigger than ever.
Dying Light 2: Stay Human sees the pandemic spread from the city of Harran to the whole world. 22 years on from the first game, only two percent of humanity has avoided infection. As a new protagonist, with their own goal and motivation in this changed world, do you and your gaming PC have what it takes to survive and… stay human?
Dying Light 2 Cinematic Trailer
Survive the City of Villedor
It is now the year 2036 and you will take on the role of human survivor Aiden Caldwell in the walled European city of Villedor. Although spared the worst of the zombie pandemic thanks to a quarantine, this last bastion of humanity is now split for control by multiple factions. As a Pilgrim, Aiden has traveled from other human settlements to Villedor to search for his sister Mia.
In your hunt, you will explore the city using your parkour skills. With over 3000 animations programmed in, movement feels fluid as you dance across rooftops. But it’s not just sweet flips that would make Michael Scott jealous you’ll employ. Aiden can use grappling hooks, gliders, and more to weave his way past the hordes of undead.
Things are of course not simple. Zombies in the world of Dying Light retreat to their nests during the day but become active and deadly at night. Which time of day you choose to act at determines some of the challenges you will face in this dynamic open world. But it’s not just the undead you will have to contend with.
Choose Your Side, Change the World
Control for the city of Villedor is contested by three key factions, and it won’t be long before you are forced to side with one. This is a choice with long-reaching consequences. Who you join up with determines not only what weapons you can add to your arsenal, but also which faction gains influence through the city and the very course the story takes.
The Survivors
If the name did not give it away, the Survivors are a group of people who are basically just happy to have survived this long into the zombie apocalypse. To that end, all they seek is peace and want to preserve the city and promote its infrastructure. They wear fairly plain clothing and primarily employ melee weapons to defend themselves against the zombies.
The Peacekeepers
As thinly veiled as names come, the Peacekeepers are effectively a military organisation with one simple goal. They want to keep the peace at any cost, save lives, and wipe out the zombies in the process. They have the gear to do it, being superbly armed, equipped with bombs, and more.
The Renegades
The one faction you cannot side with and the defacto ‘bad guys’, the Renegades are best avoided. A collective of ex-cons, they seek total control of the city and oppose both the other factions. While the Peacekeepers and the Survivors are not openly hostile and only oppose each other ideologically, the Renegades are far from friendly. Wearing hockey masks, sporting firearms, and generally looking quite menacing, they are sure to be a thorn in your side.
